SLOW MOTION: The Butterfly Pull Up

First, let me say that I really don’t encourage folks to try butterfly pull ups. An overwhelming majority of Crossfitters just don’t have the mobility and strength to do them and you’ll run a high risk of injury especially when you’re tired.

I get into it a lot more in this post here.

With that being said, for those who are interested in seeing the mechanics of how those pros are swinging like that, this is an awesome slow motion video of the butterfly pull up.

  1. my coach always teaches us “arms first” with the butterfly pull up-basically, if you can’t get your chin over the bar by the strength of your upper body doing that circular motion (i.e not using that bicycle kick to propel you over the very first one you do) then he doesn’t think you have the strength/mobility to regularly do them.

  2. Reblogged this on Graphic Design and Personal Training and commented:
I’ve always wanted to try these, but this is how I imagine it going: Face, meet Bar. Bar, meet Face. End of workout.

Some day I will work up the courage to give it a shot.
