CrossFit Open 14.2 Strategy Guide, Tips

Seriously, I bet none of you saw the overhead squats coming 🙂

14.2 Here we go!

DESCRIPTION: Crossfit Open 14.2 is an ascending ladder starting with 2 rounds of 10 overhead squats and 10 chest-to-bar pullups.  If you complete two rounds in under 3 minutes you stop until the 3 minute mark.  After every round the reps increase by 2 to 12 overhead squats and 12 CTB pullups, then 14 and 14, 16 and 16, etc. until you can no longer complete the the two rounds in under 3 minutes.

Make sense?

Here’s the full breakdown from CrossFit HQ.

Tips, Strategies

UPDATE: 14.2 tips directly from CrossFit Pro Talayna Fortunato.

TIP #1: Clean the jerk the bar overhead, DON’T SNATCH.  For a lot of folks, the 95# and 65# snatch is a challenging weight. Save your shoulders and get a proper load position for the overhead squats.

TIP #2: Load your overhead squat from the bar on the back position NOT from a snatch or shoulder position. While it’s gonna take more time, this is going to give you a more stable position to start the overhead squat, enabling you to go unbroken. You DO NOT want to have to put the bar down because your position is poor.

TIP #3: Move through the OH squats as fast as possible to reduce the time under tension for your shoulders and forearms.

Both Camille Leblanc-Bazinet and Talayna Fortunato went right into the overhead squat from a full snatch. This is going to be really tough for most athletes.

NOTE: Both Camille Leblanc-Bazinet and Talayna Fortunato finished round 1 in 1:10.

  1. These are great tips! 65# is a weight I haven’t tried to OHS before so it’s definitely going to be challenging. I like the idea of jerking the bar up instead of snatching. So much easier. This WOD may break me but I’m going to go down fighting! (hopefully, I’ll be able to get back up – haha!)

    Good luck on yours!

  2. i did just 1 round, but i am small and just started crossfit. i had good overhead squats, but pull ups killed me. my advice-working on pull ups for better results
